THE Neo QLED TVs come to supply the majority of the Samsung catalog, supplemented by the QD-OLED references which are the S95D, S90D and S85D. Several 8K UHD references have been revealed, with some exciting new features, including a new generation processor.

In addition to its three QD-OLED series and their anti-reflective coating announced as being ultra effective, Samsung is going all out on its Neo QLED televisions at CES 2024. Although it is still intended for a niche market, 8K is in the spotlight with the Samsung QN900D series.

NQ8 AI Gen3: Samsung’s most innovative processor to date?

With its Neo QLED QN900D series, available with diagonals of 65, 75 and 85 inches, Samsung is introducing its NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, announced as “Samsung’s most innovative TV processor”. The Korean in fact mentions doubled performance for its neural processing unit (NPU). The NQ8 AI Gen3 would benefit from an execution speed 8 times faster than the Neural Quantum present on previous models.

Logically, artificial intelligence is in the spotlight within this new chip. We thus learn that the number of neural networks increases to 512 Deep Learning modules, compared to 64 last year. The newly acquired power of this processor should allow Samsung to offer improved video processing on its 8K series, particularly in terms of content scaling. Obviously, given the paucity of 8K UHD content available, upscaling is an essential feature on such a television. The 8K AI Upscaling Pro scaling engine should therefore offer a much more qualitative image on the QN900D, regardless of the input signal, whether it is 2 160p or even low resolution.

Algorithms also come into play with the AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Real Depth Enhancer Pro features. In the first case, it is about obtaining a smoother visual experience with sports content thanks to image interpolation adapted to the sport broadcast on the screen. The second function is also optimized by AI, with the aim of improving the feeling of depth of the image, in particular by identifying the focal point (where the eye is drawn) of each scene.

240Hz VRR and Infinity Air Design

Finally, in addition to the various AI-based optimizations, as is the case for audio with the Active Voice Amplifier Pro function, the QN900D stands out for its refresh rate of 240 Hz and its VRR support up to at this maximum value! The QN900D also sports a new design. Named Infinity Air, it has a mirror-effect stand to give the impression of a “floating” television, offering, according to Samsung “a more immersive visual experience and exceptional sound quality”. The panel is also extremely thin for an 8K MiniLED TV at just 12.9mm thick.
