Beyond the new Momentum True Wireless 4, Sennheiser took advantage of CES 2024 to unveil the Momentum Sport, a pair of headphones for sports music lovers. These stand out first of all for the integration of two biometric sensors: one to measure heart rate by photoplethysmography (range from 30 to 220 bpm); and another to measure body temperature (with an accuracy of +/- 0.3°C).
The data measured by these sensors is then retrieved by your favorite fitness app (Apple Watch/Health, Garmin Watch/Connect, Strava, Peloton and many others) in order to best monitor your physical efforts. The Momentum Sport also benefits from extensive integration within the Polar ecosystem with support for the Polar Flow app, real-time data visualization on the Polar Vantage V3 watch and audio streaming of Polar training and sports advice.
Everything to make life easier for athletes
Notwithstanding these sensors, Sennheiser has designed its Momentum Sport to make life easier for athletes. The headphones thus promise optimal wearing comfort and flawless support with their silicone fin system. Moreover, several sizes of fins and tips are provided. The Momentum Sport also benefits from a vent system which reduces the feeling of occlusion, therefore limiting the feeling of resonance when walking or running.
The headphones are IP55 certified, therefore resistant to splashing water and sweat. The carrying case benefits from IP54 certification. Each earphone has a touch surface for controls, which are here combined with accelerometers to continue controlling the earphones even with wet fingers or while wearing gloves. It will thus be possible to tap your ear or cheek to pause or move to the next track.
A Transparency mode is obviously included to remain aware of the environment during physical exercises. The Momentum Sport also has an anti-wind mode and a noise reduction system if you want to isolate yourself from the outside world.
Despite the numerous attention paid to athletes, Sennheiser ensures that it has not sacrificed the sound performance of its headphones. The Momentum Sport features 10mm speakers, is Bluetooth 5.2 compatible and supports the aptX Adaptive codec. Furthermore, they promise 6 hours of battery life per charge, with three additional charges in the case.
The Momentum Sport will be available in black, silver or green, from April 2024 at a price of €300.
