CES 2024: Swarovski presents smart binoculars capable of recognizing up to 9,000 species of birds

At CES 2024Swarovski Optik has unveiled the “ the world’s first AI-assisted binoculars “. AX Vision allows their holder to instantly identify nearly 9,000 species of birds.

Developed by industrial designer Marc Newson, the binoculars represent “ the future of nature observation ”, according to the company. Its technology is powered by a “ integrated operating and object recognition system », coupled to an on-board neural processing unit. “ At the touch of a button, they make it easy to identify birds and other creatures, share discoveries and offer a wide range of convenient additional features », promises the manufacturer, which is celebrating its 75th this year^e birthday.

Swarovski Optik worked on the development of the model for five years. This is an example of “ a perfect symbiosis between high-performance long-range analog optics and digital intelligence », assures the company.

When its holder points the device at a bird, all he has to do is press a button and the species of the animal is indicated. Binocular recognition time takes about five seconds; it’s not much, but it gives enough time for a bird to fly away.

In addition to observation, the AX Vision has an integrated 13 megapixel camera with a resolution of 1080 p. It allows you to capture photos and videos that can be directly shared via a smartphone application linked to the model. The binoculars have a magnification power of 10 and a field of view of 1,000 meters.

Integrated GPS for even more precision

They are also equipped with an integrated GPS. It offers the processor the possibility of knowing the type of species likely to be found in the observation region. Another feature called “ Share my discoveries » allows arrows to appear in the viewfinder, so as to show the person next to them what you have just viewed when you lend them the binoculars.

As you can imagine, such a product comes with a significant cost. Swarovski Optik will market the AX Vision from February for $4,799.
