CES 2024 – Swarovski unveils binoculars capable of identifying 9,000 species of birds

Swarovski Optik, a company specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality optical instruments, took advantage of CES 2024 to unveil its AI-boosted binoculars. AX Visio are capable of identifying nearly 9,000 species of birds. The company states that it is “future of nature observation“.

Five seconds to identify a bird species

The AX Visio are equipped with a neural processing unit embedding a system capable of recognizing objects. When the binoculars are in use, birds can be identified at the press of a button, according to Swarovski Optik. The company promises that identification takes just five seconds. Since species differ from region to region, AX Visios feature built-in GPS. Thanks to this technology, the binoculars more precisely identify a bird depending on the user’s location, according to the company.

Regarding the image, the AX Visio benefits from a 13 megapixel camera with a resolution of 1080p to record high quality videos and photographs. The photos are then received on the dedicated mobile application. The field of view is 1000 meters.

When the binoculars are passed from one hand to the other, a functionality generates arrows which indicate the species analyzed.
