The CES is the opportunity for all the major manufacturers to present their new, more or less useful gadgets. In this game, Asus has unveiled an intriguing accessory: the Asus ZenScreen Fold.

Have you ever worked remotely away from home and regretted the absence of your second screen? If so, then the Asus ZenScreen Fold is probably for you. This 17-inch screen presented at CES 2024 has a little special feature: it can fold in half to slip into your bag and be taken anywhere. A bit like a large-format Galaxy Z Fold that would serve as an external screen for your professional needs.

Oled, QHD and USB-C

The ZenScreen Fold is far from being Asus’ first portable screen. In 2023, the Taiwanese company had already presented the ZenScreen Oled, but this new model has the advantage of portability. Folded in half, the ZenScreen Fold is no more bulky than a small 12-inch screen (i.e. a smaller size than most laptops). And at 1.17 kg on the scale and less than 2 cm thick, it won’t exactly be discreet in your bag, but will slip easily next to your work machine.

Unfolded, the Fold offers a 17-inch QHD (2560 x 1920) Oled display capable of offering all the comfort of an external screen wherever you are. In terms of technical characteristics, the monitor covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut, offers infinite contrast (thanks to Oled), a jack port and a mini-HDMI port. But technically, the interest of the ZenScreen Fold, beyond its portable format, lies in its two USB-C ports capable of powering the device while supporting a video stream. So, if your computer is compatible, you will only need a USB-C cable to power and connect the display.

An announced price of $2000

Asus promises that the hinge allowing the screen to be folded makes the fold in the middle almost invisible (even if it can be clearly seen in certain promotional photos) and allows the accessory to be as thin as possible by virtually eliminating the play between the two parts of the screen. Finally, a kickstand on the back of the screen will allow you to place it anywhere.

On paper, the ZenScreen Fold is therefore a very interesting accessory which combines portability and comfort of use. Two essential qualities for those who have the privilege of being able to telework from wherever they want. Unfortunately, you will have to empty your wallet to take advantage of it since the announced price is $2000 for the moment. Like all foldable gadgets, Asus’s has a very high price at the moment, but let’s hope that doesn’t last.
