CES: From space travel to washing dishes – Beomni 1.0 is said to be the first real all-purpose robot

CES

At the CES in Las Vegas, the US company Beyond Imagination presents the humanoid Beomni 1.0. The robot is supposed to help around the house – or when setting up a space station.

Even filigree movement sequences are feasible – if a person takes over control from a distance. (Source: screenshot)

  • Beomni 1.0 is said to be the first robot that can be used universally.
  • It can be remotely controlled by human hands and learns to automate work processes.
  • He cannot climb stairs.

If Tesla founder Elon Musk has it, humanoid robots will soon enable us to earn an unconditional basic income and relieve us of all the tedious work. Sounds like science fiction. At CES, a US company shows that this step is closer than many thought.

When you see the pictures of the Beomni 1.0 robot from Beyond Imagination, you inevitably have to think of robots from films. Although the human-like machine cannot run, it depends on an electric drive with wheels. These should ensure safe progress even on difficult terrain such as mud or sand.

Motor and sensory functions are so well developed that filigree work such as adding a pinch of salt to a soup can be done just as easily as lifting heavy objects. Beomni 1.0 can handle around 16 kilograms per arm.

Can be controlled remotely from the home office

In a training period, Beomni 1.0 will rely on (remote) control by human hands. Employees can control the robot from their home office. Artificial intelligence should help the robot to recognize recurring processes. After a while, these should then be able to be carried out autonomously by the robot and only controlled by humans. At some point this step could also be omitted.

The robot premiered at the CES in Las Vegas. The manufacturer is still keeping data on availability and price under lock and key. You can find more news from CES in the linked overview article.
