PARIS, January 4 (Reuters) – Valeo presented a COVID-19 detection terminal at the CES show in Las Vegas on Tuesday, the result of its research into electronic systems for controlling the thermal and physiological comfort of passengers and that of the state of vigilance of the driver through the observation of his gaze.

By aggregating data from different sensors (radars and cameras), the terminal detects the symptoms of COVID-19 and offers a first contactless diagnosis, in less than two minutes and with an efficiency close to that of a PCR test, indicated the automotive supplier in a press release published on the eve of the American technology fair (Consumer Electronics Show).

This device, which could be used at the entrance to establishments open to the public such as airports or train stations, must now be the subject of clinical trials in various medical research organizations around the world, in North Africa and in the Middle East, in India and in Thailand as well as in France and Belgium, with a view to its validation.

“It is a natural extension of all the technologies we are inventing to transform the car into a sort of healthy cocoon,” Valeo Deputy CEO Christophe Périllat explained during a press conference call.

The supplier also received the CES 2022 Innovation Awards for another anti-Covid application, a powerful UV-based air purifier for bus and coach cabins. This sterilization system eliminates, in a single cycle of air circulation, more than 95% of viruses, including COVID-19, he said in another press release.
