Her name is Irène Drésel. And she is the very first female composer to be awarded by the Académie des César in 48 years.

The important speeches are linked to the César 2023. First woman rewarded in the category of Best music for image, Irène Drésel ended her speech of thanks by dedicating her César to all women composers, after asking, amused , not to be interrupted… by the music.

“The Césars for cinema have existed for 48 years. Over these long years, five women have been nominated but none of them have ever been rewarded. So this César I dedicate above all to all female music composers in the picture. Thank you!”

Irène Drésel was awarded for her electronic and repetitive composition on A plein temps, an intense drama carried out at breakneck speed by Laure Calamy (nominated as Best Actress). Director Eric Gravel explained “I really wanted to collaborate with an artist from the electro scene who brings his own signature and the music of Irène Drésel intrinsically carries this tone within it. (…) At the start, I edited the film without music , being carried only by the rhythm of the character. Irène therefore found herself with a blank workspace, without an imposed tonality, which left her the freedom to install her signature, in a very organic way, a bit like for a gig”.
