César: “Lost Illusions”, adapted from Balzac’s novel, at the top of the nominations

The adaptation of the famous novel by Xavier Giannoli is nominated fifteen times for the ceremony which will take place on February 25. Then come “Annette” by Leos Carax and “Aline” with Valérie Lemercier.

The film lost illusions, adaptation of Balzac’s novel by Xavier Giannoli, is at the top of the nominations for the César 2022, which will be awarded on February 25.

This film, which drew 850,000 theatrical viewers despite the pandemic, is clearly in the lead, with fifteen nominations, including best film and best direction, according to the list published on Wednesday. Its main actor, Benjamin Voisin, is named in the “best male hopeful” category, where he was already competing last year for Summer 85 by Francois Ozon.

Behind this adaptation of Balzac’s great novel on the emergence of the press and its excesses, both classic and very contemporary in the themes it addresses, the members of the Académie have placed the rock opera Annette by Leos Carax (eleven nominations), which notably earned American Adam Driver a nomination as best actor.

To close this leading trio, Aline, Valérie Lemercier’s biopic dedicated to Céline Dion, in which this big fan of the Quebec singing star gives the best of herself, won ten nominations, including logically the best actress, alongside Laure Calamy for A woman of the world, renamed after winning the title last year.

The 4,363 film professionals who are members of the Academy now have one month to vote and decide between these films, in 24 categories, before the ceremony on February 25.
