A “Highlander” reboot with Henry Cavill is slowly taking shape. It is the next film from director Chad Stahelski.

Action specialist Chad Stahelski (55) will decide on the creative design of the “John Wick” and “Highlander” series in the future. Lionsgate has now announced this, as have several US industry magazines, including “Variety”, report. The stuntman and “John Wick” director will oversee the two franchises across all media.

His production company 87eleven is said to be developing a short- and long-term, “comprehensive multi-platform content strategy” for both “John Wick” and “Highlander.” What this might look like is currently not known. Stahelski is already involved in the production of the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina” with Ana de Armas (35), planned for summer 2024.

In a statement, Stahelski describes the whole thing as a “new supervisory function.” The “John Wick” universe is “very close to his heart, and it will be great fun for me to continue to look after it. I’m very excited to be starting another franchise with ‘Highlander,’ a world that is so rich in exciting stories that need to be told.”

“Highlander” with Henry Cavill has been planned for a long time

Stahelski will next direct a “Highlander” reboot, which is apparently slowly taking shape. “The Witcher” star Henry Cavill (40) has been linked to the new edition for a while now. For the first time in May 2021 there were corresponding media reports. Stahelski has been working on the project since 2016.

Cavill will play the immortal Connor MacLeod instead of Christopher Lambert (66). Stahelski talked about it last summer on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcastthat he is approaching the “Highlander” world with a franchise idea. His plan: to extend the story over several films and give individual characters more depth.

If the action fantasy is successful, there should be little to prevent the whole thing from going into series again, for example. In addition to several “Highlander” films – the first part was released in 1986 – there are also series spin-offs from the 1990s. A “John Wick” miniseries with “The Continental” has already been released last year in addition to the four movies so far.
