Chadwick Boseman: "Avengers" colleagues pay him their last respects

For a very sad occasion, the Avengers gather on Instagram: They commemorate their fallen comrade-in-arms Chadwick Boseman.

Chadwick Boseman was only 39 years old in 2016 when he was diagnosed with the staggering diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer. But instead of giving up, he not only fought for his life, but also worked his way up to the top ranks of Hollywood despite the serious illness. The star of "Avengers" and "Black Panther" succumbed to the disease on August 28, at only 43 years and four years after the diagnosis. His Marvel colleagues say goodbye in a heartbreaking way on social media.

"An even bigger hero off the screen"

Tom Holland (24), who plays Peter Parker alias Spider-Man in the "Avengers" films, reminds on Instagram that Boseman was "even a bigger hero off the screen" than on her. He was a role model for Holland and millions of people around the world. "You have brought joy and happiness to so many and I am proud that I was allowed to call you a friend." In addition, Holland posted a picture of Boseman, which shows him on a surprise visit to the children's ward in a hospital.

Chris Hemsworth, 37, is known in the Marvel Universe as the demigod Thor. He posted a picture shared with Boseman, writing, "Buddy. I'll miss you. Absolutely heartbreaking. He was one of the kindest, most sincere people I've known. I send love and support to the family."

"You were one of the greatest of all time"

Mark Ruffalo (52) aka Hulk's heart also seems broken. For him, the demise of his colleague and friend is another sad highlight of 2020. "What a man and what an incredible talent. Brother, you were one of the greatest of all time and that's just where your greatness began."

"He still had so much great work to do"

Captain America (Chris Evans, 39) can't believe the news of Boseman's demise. "I'm completely devastated. (…) Chadwick was special. A real original. (…) Few actors have such power and versatility. He still had so much great work ahead of him. I am infinitely grateful for our friendship." Evans published a series of pictures on Instagram that shows him and Boseman in their time together as Avengers.

Oscar winner Brie Larson, 30, became Captain Marvel last year. She also shared a picture with Boseman and wrote: "Chadwick was someone who exuded strength and peace. Who stood for so much more than himself. Who took the time to see how you were doing and who gave you courage when you felt unsafe. " Most of all, she will remember the conversations together and the moments when they could laugh heartily together.

"A warrior with a big heart that I will never forget

Jeremy Renner (49) has been the hero Hawkeye in the Marvel universe since the first "Avengers" flick. Commenting on a black and white photo of his late co-star, he wrote: "Chadwick is an inspiration, a warrior with a big heart that I will never forget. My heart is forever broken by his passing."

Josh Brolin (52), actually the villain Thanos and nemesis of the Avengers, posted the same picture as Renner. He could hardly find words for his grief: "I am devastated. Such an incredible, wonderful person. Rest in peace, brother."
