Chalon-sur-Saône: two women and a girl killed, the suspect probably dead

The bodies of two women and a young girl, victims of a homicide, were found on the night of Sunday to Monday near Chalon-sur-Saône (Saône-et-Loire), indicated the prosecution, specifying that the alleged perpetrator is actively sought. The three victims were found in Saint-Rémy and Gergy (Saône-et-Loire), near Chalon, added the prosecution, without giving either the age or the identity of the deceased.

Presumably a link between the two discoveries

The remains of a woman were first found shortly before midnight in the parking lot of a commercial area in Saint-Rémy, then those of a mother and her little girl in a house in Gergy, still close to Chalon. There is probably a link between the two discoveries, according to the prosecution, the alleged perpetrator having a family link with the mother and the child, but also a professional link with the first victim, found in a parking lot.

A 38-year-old man quickly identified as the main suspect

Very quickly, the gendarmes identified a 38-year-old man – manager of a driving school in Chalon – as the main suspect and set out to find him. Sources close to the file, it is specified that the latter had an affair with his secretary and that he had to divorce his wife – the second after a first marriage – with whom he had a five-year-old girl.

Sunday, for a reason still unknown, the suspect would have first made an appointment with his secretary in the parking lot of a shopping center in St-Rémy, before slitting her throat with a knife. The connection is then quickly established by the investigators with a vehicle found Sunday evening in the parking lot of the Pont de la Caille, in Haute-Savoie. Nicknamed the “suicide bridge”, this suspended building almost 150 meters high is located between Allonzier-la-Caille and Cruseilles.

Investigations still ongoing

An excavation is then launched in the gorges below, in which plunge about fifteen suicides per year. And, Monday morning, “the body of an individual likely to be that of the perpetrator is discovered below this bridge”, told AFP the public prosecutor of Thonon-les-Bains, Bruno Badre. “Investigations and verifications are currently underway in order to be able to formally identify him,” he added.

In Chalon-sur-Saône, the prosecution specifies that the research section of the Dijon gendarmerie is in charge of the investigation and that autopsies of the four bodies will take place on Tuesday. The public prosecutor of Chalon, Patrice Guigon, will hold a press conference on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
