Chamber of Labor project – 400 Salzburg students receive free tutoring

More and more children need support for school. There are problems mainly in mathematics and foreign languages. The Chamber of Labor is therefore starting a pilot project in August.

The numbers are frightening. According to a study by the Salzburg Chamber of Labor (AK), parents in Salzburg spend seven million euros a year on tutoring their children – an average of 820 euros per pupil. That is 43 percent more than in 2021. In addition, there are school expenses of between 1,200 and 2,000 euros per year. “And the current price increases are not even included,” says AK President Peter Eder. 9000 students claimed tutoring. “The need is much higher,” says AK expert Hilla Lindhuber. With another 10,000 students, the parents cannot afford the additional tuition. This is exactly where the AK comes in with its new pilot project “Lernkompass”. This is intended to increase equal opportunities in education – regardless of financial possibilities. “Of course it’s just a drop in the ocean, but we want the project to provide a boost for further political measures,” explains Eder. For now, the following applies: Whoever registers first gets a place. The units are carried out in all districts with the exception of the Lungau by the company “LernProfi”. The costs are 90,000 euros. Interesting: Twelve percent of the tutoring students are elementary school students. The pressure to switch to high school has now increased significantly.
