Champions League quarter-final first leg: Liverpool win (3-1) against Benfica, City dominate Atlético (1-0)

Liverpool took an option for the Champions League semi-finals by beating Benfica 3-1 in the quarter-final first leg. At the same time, Manchester City won 1-0 against Atlético Madrid.

Liverpool players largely dominated the match in Lisbon. French defender Ibrahima Konaté opened the scoring from a corner (17th), followed by Sadio Mané (34th). But, after an error from Konaté, the Reds were surprised by Darwin Nunez (49th). Luis Diaz finally scored the 3rd goal in the 87th.

With a two-goal difference, Liverpool is taking a serious option for the rest of the European adventure before the return match, in a week.

The other English club engaged tonight also took a small advantage.

But it was not without difficulty. It took until the 70th minute for Manchester City to break through the Atlético Madrid defense with a goal from Kevin de Bruyne.
