VfL Wolfsburg humiliates exhausted Bayern

The footballers at VfL Wolfsburg have taken a giant step towards the championship. Against the pursuers from FC Bayern Munich, they win hands down and move away in the table. The wolves cheer, Bayern are as good as dethroned – and happy that the horror week is over.
Shooting festival instead of excitement: The soccer players of VfL Wolfsburg can plan the championship celebration. The Bundesliga leaders surprisingly won the decisive top game against pursuers and defending champions Bayern Munich 6-0 (3-0). The Wolfsburg women shouldn’t let the four-point lead be taken away in the remaining three games.
Svenja Huth (8th), Joelle Wedemeyer (33rd), Tabea Wassmuth (39th), Alexandra Popp (77th), Lena Oberdorf (82nd) and Ewa Pajor (90th + 1) scored in front of 3037 spectators for VfL who wants the bowl back. The two flagship clubs had made up the past nine championships – Wolfsburg triumphed six times and Bayern three times.
“With the rest of the program, I don’t assume that the Wolfsburg women will lose feathers,” said Bayern coach Jens Scheuer before kick-off: “That’s why you can call it the final.” The “final” lived up to expectations at the beginning. Wolfsburg “brutally effective”
Bayern, who were missing four players due to corona infections, only missed the exhausting quarter-finals after extra time in the Champions League at Paris St. Germain on Wednesday in the initial phase. After almost half an hour, the women from Wolfsburg, who made it into the semi-finals of the premier class on Thursday, took command. “Wolfsburg was brutally effective,” said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg at the break on NDR: “Bayern’s performance can of course be explained. They lack physical and mental freshness. That’s very unfortunate for Bayern.” In the second round, the hosts managed the result, Bayern lacked the strength to stand up.
The game did not reach the level of the first half. Popp, Oberdorf and Pajor boosted the result. Both teams will see each other again in two weeks. In the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, the Munich team would like to ensure that the permanent cup winners from Wolfsburg (since 2015) are replaced.
