  • Analogue radio transmission ends in Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg.
  • The changeover will take place from January 9th to 11th, with the final shutdown taking place on January 31st.
  • All radio stations in Vodafone’s cable network can then only be received digitally.

What once began with the antenna will end in the coming weeks, at least via Vodafone. The service is discontinuing analogue transmission of radio stations in Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg. From January 11th at the latest, the programs can only be received via digital devices. The three federal states are the last in the Vodafone network in which there is still analogue radio transmission. These are the dates for the shutdown in the three federal states:

  • Hesse: January 9th
  • North Rhine-Westphalia: January 10th
  • Baden-Württemberg: January 11th

From the respective dates for the federal states, the broadcast signals will be replaced by a recorded announcement. All users should be informed about the change. The final shutdown will occur on January 31st.

Better upload, digital receiving device necessary

For most of you, the change will change little. The shutdown only affects devices that run completely analog. For many people, there is mainly positive news: The fact that the audio signals no longer run over the cable network will primarily benefit internet coverage in the relevant areas. According to Vodafone, you can look forward to a better upload.

Digital radio stations can usually be received on all modern televisions with a DVB-C tuner. If your device does not have one, you can alternatively replace the antenna cable with a wire or indoor antenna. Reception then continues via the analogue VHF frequencies. Unfortunately, this means you receive less than the normally around 350 radio stations in the Vodafone network.
