Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken are discontinuing the app function: “VR-mobileCash” will soon be over

The Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken are apparently planning to To throw the “VR-mobileCash” function out of their banking app. After years, this should put an end to contactless cash withdrawals from ATMs, even without a bank card. The reason: The app users should not be interested in the function.

This emerges from a message that the payment expert Klaus Igel sent via Twitter has shared, reports Finanzszene. Users could use the app at suitable machines Withdraw money, even if the bank card was not at hand.

According to the news, this should soon be over. In just a few days – on March 31, 2022 – “VR-mobileCash” should be switched off. All customers who rely on the function in everyday life must first get used to it. Because anyone who has been able to leave their bank card at home should put it back in from April 1st. The message says: “Important: From April 1st, 2022 you will therefore need your Girocard and your PIN again, when they want to withdraw cash from ATMs.”

This is how your payments are protected in online banking:

App users have alternative ways to get cash

“All banks” from the association of cooperative Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks are affected, not just regional branches. The financial institutions give the reason for the end of the function lack of user interest at. If this is indeed the case, the step is likely to affect only a few Volksbank customers seriously – especially since many alternative payment methods have been better accepted since their introduction. If you urgently need cash, you can have it paid out in many supermarkets.

The Girocard is thus becoming somewhat more important at the Volksbank than it has been over the past few years. However, it is unclear how long it will remain in its current form. According to reports, several important services will no longer exist in the industry, including technically outdated functions, but international payment systems are also about to be reorganized.
