Character and radar – Moto Guzzi brings the new edition of the Stelvio

After eight years of construction, Moto Guzzi discontinued the Stelvio – the fans were very sad, after all, the big travel enduro had a strong character and was suitable for long-distance travel. And the V85, which came in 2019, is one size smaller. Now they have launched a new generation in Mandello del Lario: The Stelvio is back!

Technically, the new edition is based on the V100 Mandello tourer model introduced at the end of 2022. Accordingly, the Stelvio offers a classic transversely installed V2, which, contrary to long Guzzi traditions, relies on liquid cooling. The modern engine with a displacement of 1042 cc produces 115 hp and 105 Nm at 6750 rpm. away. It drives the single-arm rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission and cardan shaft. The look of the Guzzi, which has been aerodynamically optimized in the wind tunnel, is characterized by a massive stem with an electrically adjustable windshield and a wide headlight unit, which, in addition to a daytime running light stylized as an eagle, integrates automatic high beam and cornering lights. Given the long chassis, spoked rims and underrun protection, the Italian should not be averse to off-road excursions. However, the tires suggest that the 246 kilogram bike is primarily intended as a long-distance tourer and for cornering fun on asphalt roads. Both the fork and shock absorber can be manually adjusted for rebound and compression. The cross-spoke rims measure 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. Braking is carried out at the front with two floating 320 mm discs and Brembo radial calipers, at the rear with a 280 mm disc and a floating two-piston caliper. The Stelvio’s control technology is extensive. On board are deactivatable and lean angle-sensitive ABS as well as traction control. There are five driving modes to choose from, including one specifically for off-road driving. With the radar package, which is subject to a surcharge, adaptive cruise control as well as collision and blind spot warning are also on board. The driver can get an overview of driving-relevant information and the many functions on a 5-inch TFT display. The new Stelvio is scheduled to be available in February 2024. The Italians have not yet announced a price. The sister model V100 Mandello starts at 17,000 euros in Austria. The Stelvio should cost one to two thousand euros more.
