On Sunday shortly after 11 a.m. there was a traffic accident on the A9 motorway. A 72-year-old woman was killed, as the cantonal police in Vaud wrote in a media release. According to initial information, a vehicle carrying two people left the road after colliding with another vehicle. The car then drove up an embankment, overturned and then caught fire.
A 72-year-old Swiss woman living in the canton of Neuchâtel had no chance of surviving despite the efforts of the rescue workers and died. The passenger was taken to Lausanne University Hospital in an ambulance. Other injured people who were in the car that was hit were taken to Rennaz hospital. They are out of danger, as the Vaud canton police write.
Debris from the accident flew onto the other lane of the motorway (towards Lausanne), which required a temporary closure of the left lane. In this direction, another accident occurred as a result of the delays, in which one person was injured. This person was also taken to the University Hospital of Lausanne by the paramedics. The autobahn towards Vevey had to be closed for a few hours. The competent public prosecutor’s office initiated a criminal investigation.
