Charente Burglars enter his home while he is alone with his daughter: a farmer opens fire

A 35-year-old man, residing in Longré in the north of Charente, was indicted for murder, after fatally shooting a 40-year-old man who broke into his home on Friday.

According to the first elements of the investigation, this farmer fired twice with a large caliber rifle at a group of four burglars who broke into his home, killing one of them, indicated Aude de Vallée, deputy of the Angoulême prosecutor.

The facts took place Friday between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., while the author of the shots was alone with his 3-year-old daughter at their home. To investigators, the farmer explained that he acted in self-defense after “felt threatened” him and his child.

Free under judicial control

The 44-year-old victim died overnight from Friday to Saturday in hospital. According to La Charente Libre, citing a source close to the investigation, shortly after the shooting, the three other alleged burglars dropped off the victim, from Serbia, in front of the emergency room before fleeing by car.

At the end of his indictment for “murder”, the author of the shots was left free and placed under judicial supervision with a ban on appearing at his home.
