Charente-Maritime: he kills his septuagenarian father without wanting it

A tragic accident. This Monday, February 6 in the morning, a farmer from Varzay (Charente-Maritime) who went out with his tractor from his shed did not notice that his father was in his path. While performing a maneuver in reverse, he hit him without realizing it, and ran over him.

His son then rushed to call for help while his injured father was still alive. Arrived on the spot, they were unfortunately unable to resuscitate the septuagenarian, who had finally succumbed to his injuries. The announcement of the man’s death deeply upset the inhabitants of the small town in Charente. Indeed, this family of farmers, settled in the village for several generations, is known to all.

Tractor driver tested

With our colleagues from Le Figaro, the Saintes prosecutor’s office confirmed that an investigation “was immediately opened to determine the precise circumstances of the accident“. For his part, the driver of the tractor was subjected to a drug and alcohol test, requested by the gendarmes and the Labor Inspectorate. But the first toxicological analyzes were negative.

This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred. In February 2022 in Rontalon (Rhône), the son of a farmer died in tragic circumstances. While helping his father, the 17-year-old was run over by a tractor. He was rushed by helicopter to the Lyon Sud hospital in Pierre-Bénite, where he finally died due to the seriousness of his injuries.
