Charente, Pas-de-Calais, Marne: three legislative elections on January 22

Three legislative elections will take place on Sunday January 22 in Charente, Pas-de-Calais and Marne, after the recent invalidation of the election of three deputies by the Constitutional Council, indicates a decree published on Saturday in the Official Journal. If necessary, a second round will take place on January 29 in the constituencies concerned, the 1st of Charente, the 8th of Pas-de-Calais and the 2nd of Marne.

On December 2, the Sages invalidated the elections in June 2022 respectively of Thomas Mesnier (Horizons), Anne-Sophie Frigout (RN) and Bertrand Petit (PS) due to irregularities in very close ballots. “I am already a candidate for the upcoming election. Top hearts“, reacted Thomas Mesnier. He had won with 24 votes in advance in the second round against René Pilato (LFI / Nupes) but the Constitutional Council found that 27 votes were irregularly cast (signature problems on the attendance lists in particular), which which led him to invalidate this election.

Ms. Frigout also promised “to continue to lead this fight to defend those who suffer from the disastrous policy of Emmanuel Macron“. His election was annulled due to the small difference in votes with two competitors, and “lack of considerationin the first round of ballots deemed irregular. Bertrand Petit saw his election invalidated because of the choice of his deputy René Hocq, who was ineligible because he was already replacing a senator. The Constitutional Council, in charge of electoral disputes, rejected fifteen other appeals concerning these legislative elections and it still has to rule on 19 others.
