Lidl and Kaufland are increasing their charging stations for e-cars. Many new charging stations are to be built in supermarkets this year. Overall, the group behind the chains has 13,000 charging points in Europe. However, the plus for German e-car drivers will be significantly lower.
At Lidl and Kaufland: Thousands of new charging stations for e-cars planned
The Schwarz Group, the group behind Lidl and Kaufland, will have 13,000 charging points for e-cars in operation by the end of the 2022 financial year. Customers can even charge their e-car there for free while shopping. No wonder that this offer is well received – and now apparently calls for more charging points.
However, before e-car drivers can look forward to a gigantic increase: by no means all new charging points are built in Germany. On the total number of 13,000 one wants to come Europe-wide after the expansion, the increase in German markets is lower (source: Schwarz Gruppe). Nevertheless, with the new public charging points, the situation for German e-car drivers is gradually becoming more relaxed.

An additional 1,800 charging points are planned at Lidl in Germany. After all, that is far more than doubling the currently available 1,050. Kaufland customers have even less chance of hitting a supermarket charging station. There are said to be over 270 so far, with 380 to come by the end of the 2022 financial year.
In both markets, this means that around a third of the branches are equipped with at least one e-charging station. At Lidl, almost a third corresponds to 3,200 locations, while at Kaufland 700 locations are said to have charging facilities.

New charging stations should supply up to electric cars
The new charging stations, which are being set up as part of the electric initiative, each have three charging points. DC fast charging should be possible on two of them. One port is reserved for slower AC charging. However, no further information is given about the exact performance values of the charging stations.
The expansion should still be popular, after all, at least Lidl offers its customers via the company’s own charging stations Electricity for the e-car for free to acquire. However, this only works with restrictions, among other things you need the Lidl Plus app.
