Charity event a success – running enthusiasts at the airport following in the footsteps of the jets

On Saturday night, the runway at Klagenfurt Airport belonged to Carinthian running enthusiasts: 1,100 participants did not miss the first Airport Run and ran for a good cause – thus the maximum number of participants was reached!

At 9 p.m. sharp it was Ready for Take Off: 1,100 sports-loving Carinthians set off with great enthusiasm, running or walking, depending on their personal fitness, to complete the 5.5 km route on the airport’s night-lit runway. After the security check, the runners were prepared for the run on the airport apron. After the countdown to the start, they went straight to the runway, guided by a “Follow-Me” vehicle. From 10.30 p.m., participants and accompanying persons rounded off the evening at the after-run party. Numerous raffle prizes were raffled off.The event was held in aid of the Rainbows Carinthia organisation, which supports children and young people after the death of a loved one or when parents separate or divorce.State Vice President Beate Prettner was absolutely delighted with the successful premiere: “We could never have imagined in the spring when we came up with the idea for this event that the first Klagenfurt Airport Night Run would attract so many people who love running and exercise. I am all the more delighted with the successful premiere. I assume that there will be a second edition next year and that the Airport Night Run will soon become a fixed point in the Carinthian health project.”People ran where planes landed again a short time later. Airport Managing Director Maximilian Wildt was also enthusiastic about the event: “I am very pleased that so many people accepted our invitation. It was a great experience and gave all participants the opportunity to get to know Klagenfurt Airport from a completely new perspective.”
