Charles and Camilla
This is how the royals like to eat
Queen Camilla’s son Tom Parker-Bowles reveals the secret behind the food preferences of his mother and her husband, King Charles.
How do you eat like a king? This secret is now being revealed – at least as far as the British royal family is concerned. In his new cookbook, Tom Parker-Bowles (49), the son of Queen Camilla (77), gives insights into the diet of his mother and her husband, King Charles (75).
This is how Queen Camilla and King Charles eat
On the occasion of the publication of “Cooking and the Crown: Royal Recipes from Queen Victoria to King Charles III” he describes the nutritional preferences of the British royal couple in an article for the “Daily Mail”According to Parker-Bowles, Charles and Camilla eat “simple, healthy and consciously seasonal food”. Their meals are prepared by royal chef Mark Flanagan, who also accompanies them from property to property.
King Charles describes his stepson as a “true food hero” who lives by what he preaches, especially when it comes to sustainability. The royal family’s pantry is often filled with “seasonal harvests from the royal estates.” In addition to fruit and vegetables such as “peas, strawberries, raspberries and chard,” “game, beef and lamb” are also on the menu. There is “no waste” at the monarch’s table.
Charles often skips lunch
Charles often skips lunch in favor of a “relaxed” afternoon tea. His stepfather takes this British tradition very seriously, says Tom Parker-Bowles. The tea is traditionally served at 5 p.m. It includes typical little treats such as “macarons, scones, waffles, biscuits, petit fours, chocolates, Chelsea buns and shortbread, as well as rolls, crumpets, poached eggs on toast, pickled prawns and sandwiches topped with chicken, smoked salmon, ham and mustard.”
Camilla, on the other hand, prefers “a very light lunch” such as “a bowl of chicken soup” or “some smoked salmon”. As a last meal, the two would often have a “relaxed” dinner – “away from the official pomp and circumstance”.
In his new cookbook, Tom Parker-Bowles also looks at the culinary preferences of deceased monarchs. He also describes the eating habits of Queen Elizabeth II (1926 – 2022) and her husband Prince Philip (1921 – 2021).
