Charles III suffering from cancer: the king comes out of silence

Monday February 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced in an official press release that King Charles III suffered from cancer. The disease was diagnosed during his recent hospitalization for an enlarged prostate. If it was made clear that Charles III should be able to “take care of state affairs and administrative formalities” throughout his treatment, the king will, however, have to withdraw from his public activities. Although the details of this treatment are unknown, we do know that the king is treated by Michael Dixon, a doctor who arouses controversy in the United Kingdom because of his use of homeopathy. The next day, the British monarch wanted to reassure his fellow citizens with a first public outing in London, showing a big smile. The same day, he was able to see his youngest son, Harry againwho rushed to visit him after his diagnosis was announced.

Until then, Charles III had not spoken personally about his illness. This Saturday, February 10, ipublished a press release in which he addresses to the British people his “most sincere thanks” for his “comfort and encouragement”. “As anyone who has been touched by cancer knows, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and the greatest support”he explains.

Raising public awareness about cancer

Charles III also indicates that he does not regret having revealed his diagnosis. Like other celebrities who have shared their battle with cancer, his gesture contributes to raising awareness among the general public to this disease. “It is equally heartening to learn that sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and highlight the work of all organizations that support patients with cancer and their families in the UK and the rest of the world”, observes the king. He concludes by emphasizing “[son] lifelong admiration for their care and dedicationwho is “all the greater with [sa] own experience”.
