Charles III, the photo album of his first day of reign
” All our condolences “, ” God bless you “, ” I wish you the best “… Returning from Scotland where his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died, Charles III was cheered on Friday by the crowd when he got out of the car in front of Buckingham Palace in London. Accompanied by his wife, Camilla, now queen consort, the monarch then held his first audience with the new prime minister, Liz Truss, before recording an address, the first of his reign, broadcast at the start of the evening.
Before that, at noon local time, church bells had rung across the country, and then at 1 p.m., 96 cannon shots, in reference to the age of the late sovereign, were fired across the country. The day after this first day of reign, Charles will be officially proclaimed king on Saturday morning, during a meeting of the Accession Council meeting at St. James’s Palace in London.
