Charles III, the proclamation of the new king in pictures

Charles III was officially proclaimed king on Saturday September 12 at a meeting of the Accession Council in London, two days after the death of his mother Elizabeth II. The ceremony took place at St. James’s Palace in the presence of new Queen Consort Camilla, new heir to the throne William, Prime Minister Liz Truss and several of her predecessors.

Following this centuries-old tradition, an obligatory passage for the new monarch despite the automatic transition of sovereignty upon the death of Elizabeth II, the proclamation of Charles III was read on the balcony of the palace, facing the crowd, before d be rehearsed outside the Royal Exchange in the City. The text must also be read in the other territories of the Kingdom, in particular in Edinburgh and Cardiff.
