The day of consecration has finally arrived for Charles III: the United Kingdom has just attended this Saturday, May 6, 2023 the coronation of its new king and Queen Camilla, during a very solemn religious ceremony at the abbey of Westminster. Europe 1 makes you relive this historic day.

This is one of the most anticipated moments of the day (after the coronation of course): the appearance of Charles III and Camilla Parker Bowles on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The King and Queen are joined by Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

Charles III and Camilla head out of Westminster. The Gold State Coach, the carriage used for each coronation, awaits them in front of the abbey. This carriage weighs four tons and is drawn by eight horses.

Charles III takes the oath on the Bible
Hand on the Bible, Charles III undertakes to “govern the peoples of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (its) other kingdoms and the territories to which they belong”.
“I, Charles, solemnly and sincerely in the presence of God, profess, testify and declare that I am a faithful Protestant, and that I will uphold and maintain, in accordance with the true intention of the texts which secure the Protestant succession to the throne, the said texts to the best of my powers according to law,” the monarch said.

Six anti-monarchy protesters are arrested
Six anti-monarchy activists were arrested on Saturday morning in London where they were preparing to demonstrate against the coronation of King Charles III, the organizers of the demonstration told AFP.
Police arrested “six of our organizers and seized hundreds of signs” bearing the slogan “Not my King” (not my king), said a spokesperson for the Republic group whose hundreds of supporters were gathered in Trafalgar Square , on the route of the procession.
