King of Sweden needs heart surgery

Sweden’s King Carl XVI. Gustaf will be operated on “in the heart area” next week. The royal family has now announced this.
Sweden’s King Carl XVI. Gustaf (76) will have heart surgery next week. According to Swedish media reports, the palace shared this on Tuesday with The 76-year-old will therefore postpone the dates planned for the rest of February, it is said.
The previously planned intervention in the “area of the heart” will take place next Monday through a so-called “keyhole operation” on the advice of the king’s personal doctor, reports “Expressen”. After the intervention, Carl XVI. Allow Gustaf to rest. The king’s engagements between February 20 and March 3 will therefore be postponed until later in the spring, the royal family said. The statement added: “The King is feeling well and his official program up to the day of surgery is proceeding as planned.”
anniversary is coming up
The monarch celebrates his 50th anniversary as king this year. He ascended the throne in 1973 after the death of his grandfather, Gustaf VI. Adolf (1882-1973). Carl XVI’s father Gustaf, Gustav Adolf Hereditary Prince of Sweden (1906-1947), died in a plane crash in Denmark in 1947 when the current King was nine months old.
