Chase in Grenoble: an 18-year-old woman killed in shootings with the police

It is a new refusal to comply which turns to the drama. Following the death of an 18-year-old young woman, Grenoble prosecutor Éric Vaillant returned to the facts in a press release. The scene took place Tuesday around 2 a.m., initially in Saint-Martin d’Hères, in the suburbs of Grenoble. At that moment, a police crew wanted to check a white Renault Mégane that had committed several traffic violations. But the driver does not stop and a chase starts.

“They chased him throughout the city of Grenoble. It lasted a long time. The driver of the vehicle was shooting at the police. At one point, they blocked him not far from Grenoble station, the courthouse They fired at this vehicle because it refused to stop. But the vehicle managed to restart and go back into the city and it stopped a little further because the driver lost control of his car. vehicle,” said the prosecutor.

The man arrested and questioned in police custody

The man was then arrested despite a new attempt to flee on foot. In the vehicle, passenger seat, the police discovered a person who had been shot and had obviously been shot. “So she had a neck wound which was immediately observed by the emergency services. This young girl had identity papers, so we were able to identify her. We know that she is an 18-year-old young woman” , continues Éric Vaillant.

For the moment, no other information on the profile of the young woman has been communicated, in particular if she was known to the police. The driver is in custody. His identity is not yet established. But for Brice Gajan, head of the SGP Unit Police union in Isère, he deliberately attacked the police.

Two open investigations

“We have a determined individual, holder of a firearm, which he uses on colleagues. So it is an attempted murder on the police. We are not in a refusal to comply classic where he would have just ran a red light and refused to stop. He was someone who was determined to attack the police,” he explains.

Two investigations have therefore been opened, one on the refusal to comply led by the Grenoble judicial police, the other led by the IGPN, the Lyon police force, which will hear the police officers on the circumstances in which they fired that night.
