The latest ChatGPT beta on Android introduces a feature that makes the chatbot even more convenient to use. This allows you to launch the AI ​​directly from the Quick Settings window, which allows you to do it from any application. We are therefore only one step away from seeing ChatGPT transform into a real virtual assistant on our smartphones.

ChatGPT has never really hidden its desire to replace Google Assistant (or even just Google?), but the latest step in its evolution could not be more eloquent. It’s been a few months now that AI has had its own smartphone application. But OpenAI clearly does not intend to stop there. Indeed, it is not always very practical to have to stop all activity on your smartphone to open the application and ask it a question.

Also, the firm has been working for some time on the possibility of invoking ChatGPT from any other application, exactly like Google Assistant. We saw first signs of the project earlier this year, when app code revealed the upcoming launch of a new activity that lets you launch ChatGPT with a simple hand gesture. There was also talk of a new button in the Quick Settings menu.

It is the latter that we are talking about today. As spotted by journalist Mishaal Rahman, this new button is now activated on the latest ChatGPT beta. As we see in the video, it is therefore possible to invoke the chatbot from any screen, whether you are reading an article, writing a message or watching a video. By pressing this button, ChatGPT appears on the screen as a floating cloud, ready to listen to your request.

All you have to do is ask him the question out loud for him to answer you — after a certain amount of waiting time. On the latter, it is important to remember that the functionality is still in beta. It is therefore possible that ChatGPT will become faster once it is officially deployed. Likewise, the AI ​​is not yet capable of reacting to what is displayed on the screen in real time. For example, it is impossible to ask it to summarize the video you are currently viewing.

ChatGPT is therefore not yet quite the rival capable of making Google Assistant tremble. But it’s hard to deny that it’s getting dangerously close.
