OpenAI has indeed unveiled a system of plugins that will allow ChatGPT to connect to third-party applications, including access to real-time information on the web. According to OpenAI, the plugins will help ChatGPT access information such as sports scores, stock quotes, and breaking news, just like you would on a regular search engine.
Also, the plugins will allow retrieving information such as personal notes or corporate documents, and performing actions such as ordering food and booking a flight.
Expedia, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna launch
Some of the first companies to create plugins for ChatGPT include Expedia, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna Shopping, Fiscal Note and many more. With these plugins, users will be able to enjoy individual support from each business within ChatGPT.
For example, with the Expedia plugin, users will be able to use ChatGPT to plan their trips, having access to the latest information on hotels, flights and more.
OpenAI explains that it chose to use the plugin to connect ChatGPT to the Internet, because it was the safest option to avoid hallucinations and reduce the risks associated with connecting a language model to an external tool. such as the Internet.
A waiting list to test
Currently, the plugins are being tested in a limited alpha release, but they will be rolled out gradually, primarily to ChatGPT Plus users and a small number of developers. If you want to test the plugins, you can join the OpenAI waiting list.
OpenAI also said it is working on its own plugins, including a navigation, extraction and code interpretation plugin.
