Chatting insiders: These should be the novelties of iOS 13

A leak probably reveals the most important innovations that iOS 13 will bring for iPhones and iPads. Spectacular features are rare, but there are many practical changes that users should welcome.

Apple will present iOS 13 at its developer conference WWDC on June 3rd. But the most important changes that the new operating system will bring for iPhones and iPads are already known. The business magazine "Bloomberg" allegedly found out about it from insiders. Here are the innovations mentioned:

  • iOS 13 is said to be even faster and more stable than iOS 12, which in this respect was already a big step forward compared to its predecessors.
  • The interface supposedly offers new animations when the user starts multitasking or closes apps. In addition, the widgets should look better that appear when you pull the home screen to the right.
  • With iOS 13, the dark mode should finally arrive, which was expected last year. The content is displayed against dark gray or black backgrounds, which saves electricity and is easy on the eyes at night. The mode should be able to be switched on and off quickly via the control center.
  • The keyboard could get a swipe function that is known from Google's Gboard or external keyboards such as Swiftkey. You swipe from letter to letter with your finger instead of typing them individually.
  • The health app is being given a makeover and is intended to better represent daily activities. Among other things, a function is to be added that registers the volume of music or noise in the environment. In addition, women should be able to record and evaluate menstrual cycles better.
  • An iPad should be able to serve as a second screen under iOS 13. It should expand the view, serve as a drawing board via Apple Pencil and display Mac notifications.
  • The reminders app could get more useful. Among other things, a new start screen is planned, which offers an overview of all tasks to be done today, upcoming and marked tasks in different colors.
  • In screen time, parents should be able to determine who can contact their children at what times under iOS 13.
  • A spiced up books app is intended to encourage users to read more with a reward system and an improved progress indicator.
  • In iMessage, as in Whatsapp, users should be able to set up a profile picture with a name. You can also choose who can see this. In addition, a new menu is to come with iOS 13, from which you can send sticker versions of Animojis and Memojis.
  • IOS 13 should make it easier to set frequently visited places in the Maps app and to navigate to them. Users should also be able to form groups with frequently visited places and add photos there.
  • "Find my iPhone" and "Find friends" are to be combined in one app.
  • It is planned for the Mail app to be able to mute individual threads and block incoming e-mails from certain contacts. In addition, the management of folders should become easier.
  • The system-wide sleep mode should be combined with the bedtime function of the clock app and sleep habits should be better tracked. If sleep mode is activated in the control center, the do not disturb function starts, the lock screen dims and notifications are muted.
  • The home app should work better with surveillance cameras and can also display stored recordings.
  • Homepods should be able to react to the voices of different people in a multi-user mode.
  • iOS 13 should automatically suggest contacts if you want to share photos or links.
  • The Safari browser could get its own download folder and the files app should work better with applications from other providers.
  • The iPad is to receive special new functions. These include a new multitasking interface and improvements to the home screen.
  • After all, the accessibility features should be presented more comprehensively in the settings and Apple wants to better support hearing aids.
