Cheaper than a Tesla Model 3 and more autonomy than a Model S: this electric car impresses

Each day that passes allows us to learn more about the Zeekr 007 electric car. And each day that passes only confirms how much this Chinese electric sedan can really scare Tesla; the proof, today, with the leak of the capacity of the car’s batteries and its autonomy, which confirms its bird’s appetite in terms of consumption.

Zeekr 007

Chinese authorities are truly our best friends when it comes to knowing information about local electric cars in advance. After introducing us to Xiaomi’s first car before its official release, they spoil us today with new information on Zeekr’s latest sedan, the 007.

We like to talk to you about the Zeekr 007. After its presentation at the Guangzhou show last month, we were able to discover its hyper-technological interior and its attractive first technical characteristics. The escape of the day, relayed by CarNewsChinaconcerns a crucial point of any electric car: the capacity of the batteries which will power the sedan as well as its autonomy.

100 kWh!

And the fateful threshold of 100 kWh seems to have been reached. If the “basic” Zeekr 007 will have to make do with a 75.6 kWh LFP (lithium – iron – phosphate) battery, another 100 kWh NMC (nickel – manganese – cobalt) pack will also be there. It is with this second option that the 007 will logically obtain its best autonomy: count 870 km according to the local CLTC standard, compared to 688 km “only” for the small battery. On the European WLTP cycle, we should expect around 780 and 610 km of autonomy.

A fairly optimistic standard, certainly, but which allows us to compare with the competition. Good surprise: the Zeekr gets an excellent score, since the Tesla Model S, also equipped with a 100 kWh battery, must be satisfied with around 800 kilometers according to this same standard. The 007 even beats its little sister, the Zeekr 001, which “only” offers 741 km with this same pack!

Remember that the Zeekr 007 consumes less than the Tesla Model 3, but a bit more than Huawei’s new Luxeed S7.

Not just great autonomy

What is even more impressive is that the Zeekr 007 does not just display this great autonomy (and therefore low consumption). Its PMA2+ platform, derived from the Geely group’s SPA on which the smart #1, Volvo EX30 or other Polestar 3 are based, allows it to access 800 volt charging. The result is 610 km of autonomy regained in 15 minutes; here too, the Teslas are abandoned, even if the arrival of 800 volts on the Cybertruck could change the situation.

Let’s go on ? Let’s go on. The 007 promises a riot of technologies (autonomous driving via LiDAR, artificial intelligence, Dolby Atmos sound, etc.) and performance (475 kW / 645 hp for the most powerful version via all-wheel drive) for surprisingly low prices. With a first price set at 224,900 yuan (around 29,100 euros), it even has the luxury of being less expensive than the cheapest Tesla, since the Model 3 Propulsion is available in China from 261,400 yuan (around 33,300 euros).

In fact, the craze seems inevitable. The pre-orders proved us right, since 5,000 copies were reserved in just 30 minutes! As for its arrival in Europe, it is within the realm of possibility: Zeekr has just delivered its first 001s to the Netherlands, while the X crossover is also planned here. Let us point out, however, that it should be much more expensive than in China… and that we can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
