Epic Games continues to enhance the already impressive capabilities of its MetaHuman character creation tool.

The latest development in this area intends to greatly facilitate this step by capturing the expressions of a person’s face thanks in particular to an iPhone to transpose them, we are told, ” in a few minutes on its flagship software.

Since its announcement in 2021, Epic Games’ MetaHuman tool has continued to grow and impress us with its capabilities. During GDC 2023, the American giant presented the latest novelty, along with other crazy promises around its famous Unreal Engine 5.

This novelty called MetaHuman Animator is interested in simplifying the capture of a person’s face to integrate it into the tool. It can even be done from an iPhone. The process would only take a few minutes and allows, despite such a short period of time, to obtain a stunningly realistic result. See instead.

To implement this new animation tool, one of Epic Games’ internal teams also released a short cinematic video. The character presented is therefore the result of this process of capturing the face of an actor, and the decor is obviously rendered under Unreal Engine 5.

Soon on our screens?

MetaHuman Animator is now accessible to developers wishing to test the capabilities of the beast. As such, Epic Games has also published a video aimed at showing how to use this tool of which it is obviously not a little proud.

So it’s only a matter of time before studios get to grips with the MetaHuman ecosystem to integrate these extremely realistic characters into their creations. Like productions under Unreal Engine 5, we will have to be a little patient before we see the color on our screens.

Between this and NVIDIA’s artificial intelligence that allows you to truly converse with a non-player character, the line between fiction and reality could, in the near future, be more tenuous than ever. For better or for worse ?
