Check out these extraordinary photos of the bioluminescent fauna of the abyss

At a depth of more than 2000 m, where sunlight does not penetrate, an unsuspected fauna develops there. The Monterey Bay Aquarium in the United States offers us several photos and videos around the discovery and preservation of our oceans.

One might think that no living organism inhabits the depths of the oceans, but this is not the case. On the contrary, fish, crabs, squid or other jellyfish stay there without ever seeing the light of our star. Moreover, 75% of living organisms in these abysses are bioluminescent and therefore emit their own light. This is how the new exhibition of the Monterey Bay Aquarium (MBA) is introduced, In the depths: exploring our unknown ocean.

If you are lucky enough to be on the West Coast of the United States, the exhibition will open its doors on April 9. For us under house arrest, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has posted a number of photos and videos (in English) of the depths of our oceans and particularly the life that evolves there. Among them, impressive images of these organisms with sometimes fantastic colors and often surprising shapes. To manage to set up the exhibition, the aquarium worked in partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), which specializes in the study of the oceans.
