This is how you recognize single-friendly hotels
Traveling alone is great, but you don’t always want to be alone. If you consider a few things when choosing accommodation, you are guaranteed to feel in good hands while on the road.
Traveling alone is wonderful – being free, not making any compromises, always going on holiday according to your own wishes! But like everything in life, traveling alone has a catch: Sometimes it feels lonely. For example, if you don’t come into contact with other people because you are one of the more introverted people who don’t dare to start a conversation. Or because all the couples and families around you seem to signal: We don’t need anyone, we are enough for ourselves.
To avoid falling into the loneliness trap, you should choose your accommodation carefully if you are traveling unaccompanied – that is, if you are happy to socialize. If you’re happiest all alone in the Swedish wilderness, you can Feel free to ignore the checklist for single-friendly hotels.
This is how you recognize single-friendly hotels
“Anderswo” magazine, which specializes in sustainable travel in Europe, has put together a helpful checklist that will help you easily see whether the accommodation is right for you as a solo traveler.
- Does the property offer several single rooms or double rooms for single use at comparable prices?
- Are there communal tables in the breakfast room and restaurant so that no one has to eat alone if they don’t want to?
- Hiking, cycling, yoga, cooking, table tennis… are there any activities where guests specifically come together?
- Is the atmosphere familiar? In small hotels you can talk to each other more quickly than in a resort with 2,000 beds. The hosts of boutique hotels or B&Bs are also more likely to keep an eye on guests who arrive alone.
- Are there common areas? A garden or park, a pool, a library or a living room with a fireplace? Places that can be used by all guests make encounters easier.
- Are there board games available or is there a cultural offering? Both help to find each other.
- If you want to pursue a hobby or learn something new, you can choose accommodation that offers themed weeks. You meet like-minded people while doing yoga, writing or painting together – and that is always a good basis for beautiful encounters.
Travel organized
Of course, there is always the option to book a group trip and indulge in a passion together with others, be it hiking or sailing. A nice group feeling quickly emerges and you get to know other people intensively, which is very enriching. But like everything there is a little catch, see above: Be free, don’t make compromises? Unfortunately, you have to forego this luxury of traveling alone.
