Chelsea fires Pochettino: A door to the past opens for Tuchel

Chelsea fire Pochettino
For Tuchel, a door opens into the past

Things aren’t going any further for Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern Munich, and now one of the coach’s former clubs has a place available again: FC Chelsea, which Tuchel led to triumph in the Champions League in 2021, is firing Mauricio Pochettino after just one season.

After just one season, former Champions League winners Chelsea FC and team manager Mauricio Pochettino are going their separate ways again. As the London club announced in a brief statement, the decision was made “by mutual agreement”. The 52-year-old Argentinian still had a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino’s successors on the island include the Italian Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton & Hove Albion) and the previous Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel, who led the Blues to Champions League triumph in 2021.

Chelsea have signed players for more than 450 million euros this season (transfer income: around 270 million), but only finished sixth in the Premier League – thanks to a final spurt with five wins in the last five Premier League match days.

People talk to each other

“I would like to thank the ownership group and the sporting management of Chelsea FC for the opportunity to be part of the history of this football club,” said Pochettino. “The club is now well positioned to progress further in the Premier League and in Europe in the coming years.”

Pochettino, who has been repeatedly linked to FC Bayern in the past, made a name for himself at Chelsea’s city rivals Tottenham Hotspur, among other things, by reaching the Champions League final in 2019. The Argentine won his three titles as a coach all in a year and a half Tenure at Paris St. Germain (2021 to 2022).

According to “Sky”, Chelsea FC is a serious option for Tuchel, who worked in London from January 2021 to September 2022. According to the report, there have already been loose talks. An extension of Tuchel’s engagement at FC Bayern did not come about despite pressure from the record champions.
