She only wants the best for him, but he can’t see that. For Cher, 77, the beginning of the year may be one of the hardest. The singer is currently trying to get her appointed guardian to her son Elijah, 47. Not only can the 47-year-old not take care of himself, the 77-year-old also fears that if he were to get it, he would immediately spend all the money he was entitled to on drugs.

Cher is on trial

As “Daily Mail” reports, the 77-year-old has now testified in court that she has lost contact with her son, does not know where he is currently or how his health is. Elijah has been battling acute addiction problems for several years and was recently even expelled from the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles, where he lived, because he had passed out on the sidewalk. The reason for this was his excessive drug consumption. “Due to severe mental health issues and substance abuse, Elijah is currently unable to manage his finances,” the pop icon wrote in a petition to the Los Angeles court filed on Thursday, January 4, 2024. She wants to take care of the money until her son is able to do so again. “The appointment of a temporary guardian is urgently needed so that Elijah’s funds can be held and managed for his benefit,” writes Cher’s attorney Lilian Walden Givens.

Wife got Elijah out of rehab

There also seem to be problems with Elijah’s wife. Earlier this week, Marieangela ‘Queeny’ King claimed she had to risk her life to save her husband from a drug rehab center in Mexico where Cher had sent him.

The hearing on Friday, January 5, 2024 will determine whether Cher will be named temporary guardian of her son until a full hearing in March.
