Although the fans were already optimistic, they will have to do without their darling Taylor Kinney (“Chicago PD”) in the season 11 finale of the fire series “Chicago Fire”. The actor, who has played fireman Kelly Severide since the beginning of the series, has been taking a break for personal reasons since January.
Former Chicago Fire star Jesse Spencer (“Dr. House”), who starred alongside Kinney for 10 seasons, reprises his role as Matt Casey for the season finale. Spencer left the series in 2021 after the 200th episode. His character relocated from Chicago to Oregon to take care of his best friend Andy Darden’s sons. He also tried a long-distance relationship with Sylvie Brett (“Chicago Med” star Kara Killmer).
Matt Casey was seen again in April’s Season 11 episode. He returned to Chicago to find a local deputy for his clandestine task force.
Actor Jesse Spencer told Deadline magazine several weeks ago that he offered “Chicago Fire” co-producer Derek Haas to come back as soon as it seemed appropriate for the series. With Kinney’s absence, this opportunity has come sooner than expected.

The series is produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment. The final episode of season 11 is airing May 24, 2023 on NBC.
