Children’s reading story – Little Martin doesn’t know Christmas!

Their first landing place was France, and Rod began to relate: “There is an old man here who brings the presents. The French Santa Claus is called ‘Père Noël’. He carries his gifts in a basket on his back, similar to the grape harvest. A lot is eaten too. For many French people, turkey with chestnuts is the typical Christmas meal, ‘le réveillon’ on the evening of December 24th. One wishes for ‘Joyeux Noël’, which is pronounced “Shoajö Noel”. That means ‘Merry Christmas’. On Christmas Eve a tree trunk is burned and the ashes are scattered in the fields for a good harvest.”
