China: Consumer prices rose again in March

BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s consumer prices rose in March for a second consecutive month, data showed on Thursday, while producer price deflation persisted, suggesting demand remained weak despite signs of a certain rebound in the Chinese economy.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), consumer prices increased last month by 0.1% year-on-year, after +0.7% in February. Analysts polled by Reuters expected growth of 0.4% on average.

Quarterly, the consumer price index fell by 1%, while the consensus gave a decline of 0.5%.

The producer price index fell in March by 2.8% over one year, in line with the consensus, after a drop of 2.7% the previous month.
