BEIJING, Dec 24 (Reuters) – Several cities in central China’s Henan province are facing a heating shortage as a cold snap swept across much of the region.
One of the main thermal energy suppliers in Jiaozuo, a city in Henan, is facing boiler failure.
Energy company JiaoZuo WanFang Aluminum Manufacturing is working to repair the outage and plans to resume supply on Dec. 26, state media reported Sunday, without specifying how many boilers were affected.
The city will suspend heating supplies to most businesses, with the exception of essential services such as hospitals and retirement homes, in order to give priority to individuals.
However, some residential complexes will still be affected during the maintenance period, media reports added.
Separately, the cities of Puyang and Pingdingshan, also located in Henan, have already suspended heating supplies to government buildings.
According to weather forecasts, temperatures in these three cities are expected to reach sub-zero levels on Sunday.
In several other parts of Henan, temperatures are expected to drop to minus 15 Co over the weekend, the provincial meteorological authority said on Saturday.
