Chips are in short supply – there is currently a great slack in the car trade

Due to bottlenecks in chip delivery, car production has to be partially stopped. That is why new cars are in short supply. And many salespeople had to be sent on short-time work.

Anyone who currently wants to buy a new car in Carinthia has to be patient. “In the last quarter alone we did not receive 100 vehicles from our importer, as there are further massive restrictions in chip production,” says Heinz Gossmann, managing director of the Lindner car dealership in Villach.

Not all brands affected
The massive delivery bottlenecks are also confirmed by Hubert Aichlseder, Klagenfurt car dealer and industry spokesman in the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce: “It is heavily brand-dependent and primarily affects luxury-class vehicles. We will therefore probably not be able to go into normal operation again until 2023. “

Short-time work
Since there are hardly any new cars available, many car salespeople are also not needed; they were sent on short-time work. In Carinthia, this currently affects around a third of the employees who work primarily in the new car sector. “Short-time work is an important measure because the salespeople are dependent on commissions. And if they can’t sell anything, the salaries are correspondingly low, ”adds Aichlseder.

No delay from China
However, there are no delays in electric cars that are produced in China, for example. “Just last week we presented the new MG Marvel Electric, which will be available from us without restrictions from February,” says Gossmann.
