Apple places billions in order with Broadcom

The technology group Apple announced in 2021 that it wanted to invest a mid-three-digit billion amount in the USA. The company is now ordering chips in the States for the upcoming network standard.
Apple will have parts for communications chips designed and manufactured in the United States. The multi-billion dollar multi-year agreement with the chip group Broadcom includes, among other things, components for 5G radio technology, as the iPhone group announced. There was no specific information on the volume of the deal or the term.
The iPhone modems for connecting to the super-fast 5G data radio are currently coming from the chip company Qualcomm. However, Apple has been said to have ambitions for years to develop 5G technology in-house. The 5G radio frequency components are manufactured at several manufacturing centers in the US, including Fort Collins, Colorado.
Qualcomm also assumes that it will lose the modem business with Apple in the long term. Apple had already bought Intel’s radio modem division in 2019 – and thus also gained a development site in Munich.
When announcing the deal with Broadcom, Apple also referred to its own promise from 2021 to invest $430 billion in the United States within five years. The group sees itself on course.
