Chocolate recall at Rewe and Edeka: Products may contain carcinogenic fungal toxins

Customers at Edeka, Rewe and Globus currently have to consider a chocolate recall. Consumption of the myChoco bars is strongly discouraged due to possible contamination with a carcinogenic fungal toxin.

The myChoco GmbH is currently informing about a recall: Tests showed increased values of aflatoxin B1 and total aflatoxin B1+B2+G1+G2 in the article “Full milk chocolate (cocoa: 31% at least) with almonds, honey and sea salt, 180g”. as Produktwarning.eu writes. The increased values can be attributed to the almonds contained in the bars. Consumption is strongly discouraged.

The articles with the batch number 22067 and the best before date 08.06.2023 are affected. The products were sold at Rewe, Edeka and Globus as well as via the company’s online shop.

Aflatoxins can have an acute hepatotoxic effect (liver dystrophy) at a concentration of 10 µg/kg body weight. But even lower concentrations, especially when taken up repeatedly, can already be carcinogenic, i.e. carcinogenic.

Only recently, after the great anger surrounding the Ferrero products, another chocolate manufacturer announced a recall. Just like with surprise eggs and the like, salmonella was the trigger here too. You can find out more about this here.
