More than 1300 singers will turn the whole of St. Michael into a stage at this weekend’s international choir festival. The event under the motto “Fire and Voice” is the largest of its kind in Austria. Whether mixed group, male ensemble or quartet: all choirs are welcome in the Lungau.
There is great anticipation in the Lungau community of St. Michael. Tonight, for the first time in three years, voices can be heard in the firelight on the market square. It is the prelude to the 15th edition of “Feuer undstimme”, the largest choir festival in Austria. From Friday evening to Sunday noon, a colorful program will be offered that will cover the entire Lungau. After a mountain prayer on Saturday morning at the Peterbauer Cross and the Marienkapelle, the choirs in the surrounding huts will provide entertainment. Concerts take place in the afternoon and evening. For example in Mauterndorf Castle, the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard and in the parish church in Unterberg. Afterwards, the choirs will perform their songs in an open singing session.
