Chris Evans had good reasons for leaving the superhero role of Captain America behind him. Is it a goodbye forever?

Chris Evans (42) gave up his role as Marvel superhero Captain America to get closer to himself again. In an interview for the October issue of GQ magazine, he said: “Initially I was very hesitant about taking the role.” The actor added: “I remember in my late 20s my feelings on set and promoting the films really changed: a little more fear, a little more insecurity.” In the end, he always asked himself: “Should I do this?”

Evans went on to explain that as his fame grew, so did his fears. “I just wasn’t sure if I was getting closer to myself or further away from myself. And something inside me kept saying that I was getting further away – that something about this industry wasn’t healthy.” The work affected his psyche, his joy and even his self-confidence.

Chris Evans loves Captain America

Chris Evans said in “GQ” that he also weighed up the positives and negatives before his Marvel engagement: “The advantages were that I could provide for my family forever. The disadvantages were that I was deeply concerned with fame and loss of control would become dissatisfied.” In the end he decided on the role.

When he thinks back now, Evans continues, what he feels most of all is gratitude. He didn’t lose control or become deeply unhappy. He loves the role of Captain America, he explains. He feels connected to it in some way. When you play a character so many times, you can’t help but try to adopt some of their characteristics and measure yourself against them, the actor said.

Chris Evans went back to his homeland

The Hollywood star has since moved from Los Angeles back to his hometown just outside Boston, Massachusetts. This takes him back to a place “where life was not only simpler – that’s missing the point – but also to a time when I was purer, I think; where my ego and my insecurities weren’t such a dominant force were that I had to defend myself against”. According to US media reports, Chris Evans married his girlfriend Alba Baptista (26) there a few days ago.

When asked if he would ever return to the Marvel universe, Chris Evans replied in the “GQ” interview: “I would never say never because it was such a wonderful experience.” It is something valuable to him. “I’m very proud of that.”

In 2018, Chris Evans announced that Captain America was a thing of the past for him. The actor said at the time that he had finished filming “Avengers: Endgame,” ending his eight-year career as Captain America. He appeared in a total of eleven Marvel films. He then made films such as “Knives Out” (2019), “The Gray Man” (2022) and “Ghosted” (2023).
