Chris has been renovating a cruise ship for 15 years and can’t believe what happens next

Chris Willson, a technology entrepreneur from the US state of Utah, bought the historic cruise ship Aurora in 2008, which has 85 cabins, a pool and theater. He invested 15 years and his entire savings in the renovation – over a million dollars. However, the original plan to turn the ship into a museum failed dramatically.

CNN reports that Willson ultimately sold the Aurora in October 2023. Unfortunately, the ship began to sink seven months later. “It was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. “It haunts me and robs me of sleep,” Willson told CNN about the decision to sell the cruise ship.

According to the US broadcaster, the Aurora then began sinking in May 2024 due to a leak and was losing diesel and oil. The U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies worked to salvage the ship. Connie Cochran with the city of Stockton told CNN that there is currently no clear ownership and they are trying to dispose of the vessel.

Willson, who originally viewed the ship as a “dream project,” was deeply disappointed. “It feels like I’ve lost a family member,” he told CNN. Passengers demanded refund after route change

Not only cruise ships, but also cruises themselves, are sometimes ill-fated. After passengers on a Caribbean cruise recently learned of an engine failure, there was turmoil on board. The shipping company Carnival Cruise Line informed guests that the ship would be heading to the Bahamas instead of the southern Caribbean. This caused resentment. Some passengers loudly demanded their money back.

Many passengers reacted to the announcement with frustration. “They knew about the problem before we boarded the ship,” said one passenger. The shipping company offered various compensation options, including credits and refunds. One family missed the cruise due to flight delays but received a full refund.
